The semantics of these constructions is not quite clear; although it might be tempting to assume that they express a stronger closeness than a hodiernal past, it rather appears that the ‘immediacy’ involved is generally not measurable in objective terms, which could be taken to mean that these constructions are, strictly speaking, outside the system of more objective remoteness distinctions.
